Happy Birthday Los Angeles!
On September 4th our city turned 235 years young.
And in that short time LA has forged itself into an iconic symbol of fun, sun and a city where dreams come true.
Not bad for a place that didn’t even exist when your great-great-grandpa was making a boss move on your great-great-grandma (eventually resulting in you..yeah)!
A Short History of Los Angeles (videos):
Founded in 1781
It was September 4, 1781 when settlers called ‘Los Pobladores’ founded the area and named it “El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles del Rio de Porciuncula” which in English was: “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of the Porciuncula River”.
Rolls off the tongue pretty natural right? Luckily the linguistic marathon of saying the entire name eventually became simply ‘Los Angeles’.
Hollywood sprouted a little before 1910 and by 1920 Los Angeles was home to more than 80 percent of the film industry in the world.
LA’s accomplishments in such a short period of time make it even more impressive then the blessed weather, bright lights and world-wide adoration. And like a line from a hollywood script: ‘They ain’t seen nothing yet”!
